Beach Days

I am incredibly lucky to live somewhere where the beach is only a twenty-minute walk from my house.

We go to the beach all year round — summer sunshine, freezing winter days and even when it’s pouring with rain. If I don’t see the sea at least once a month, I genuinely start to feel a bit strange. I think that’s one of the reasons I could never imagine leaving where I live.

And the wonderful thing is that each side of our little peninsula feels completely different.

On one side, there’s Whitsand Bay. Miles of beautiful coastline, white sands and little pockets of joy just waiting to be discovered.

On the other, there are the remains of an old fishing village — quieter now, but still filled with the ghosts of what must once have been a wonderfully busy, magical little place. And, perhaps most importantly to us, sea glass galore!

Then, tucked safely in the middle, is the village I call home. Somehow it has managed to keep hold of its community and its character, and I feel incredibly lucky to live here.

The views still take my breath away.

It really is the most wonderful place to bring children up.

Our beach trips rarely end when we leave the sand either.

Every time we go, we seem to come home with jars and jars of sea glass, shells, stones and little treasures that apparently absolutely had to come home with us.

Then the creativity begins.

We make pictures, Christmas baubles for the tree, shell mobiles and all sorts of strange and wonderful beachy creations. Some we keep, some become gifts and some even end up being things I sell through Beautiful Chaotic Mess.

Because for me, going to the beach has never just been about going to the beach.

It’s exploring.
Collecting.
Making memories.
Finding treasures.
And turning those little treasures into something new.

So this little corner of Beautiful Chaotic Mess is where I’ll share some of our beach adventures, the things we discover and the creations that come from them.

And hopefully, somewhere along the way, it might inspire you to grab a bucket, pull on your wellies or flipflops and take your own adventure to the beach.

You never know what little bit of magic might be waiting there.
