I created this illustration after spotting ten magpies in a graveyard while walking my son to school. I'd only ever known the rhyme as far as "Three for a Girl", so I went home and discovered the rest.
For months I studied magpies—watching them, sketching them and learning their personalities—before finally creating this print.
Over the years it has travelled further than I ever imagined. It has been shared across the internet, turned into memes, had my name cropped away, and even been used by companies without permission.
Despite all that, this remains one of the pieces I'm most proud of, because it began with one ordinary morning and ten extraordinary magpies.
